Addressable LED Display

Powered by hot glue sticks

Sound reactive.

The Addressable LED Display is run using an ESP8266 microcontroller programmed in C, and consists of a WS2812B addressable RGB strip glued to both ends of the hot glue sticks. The primary motivation for this project was to add something fun to my room, since I really enjoyed using sound-reactive LEDs when DJing parties on campus at MIT.

The demo on the right features a serial plotter display from the Arduino IDE with the top line displaying the magnitude of the analog voltage the music playing through an audio jack. The distance between the lower two lines on the serial plotter display represent the width of the lit portion of the Addressable LED Display.

Unfortunatedly, I could not post a demo with audio because I do not have licensing rights to share the music I played.

Tweaking4All.com was an excellent resource for figuring out how to make the rainbow colors.

This project is still a work in progress, and Iā€™m planning on continuing to figure out the best materials and tech to put cool sound-reactive displays in my room. If you are interested in acquiring one of the displays, or curious about exactly how it works, feel free to contact me!
